Mobile Phone Etiquette

By Owen Jones

Mobile phones or cell phones are a boon to society - there is no question of that. It is a godsend to our private lives, but it is even more important to business. It permits very small businesses to remain in touch with customers and possible customers without having to have a secretary or an office.

It is even said that having a cell phone is the number one best manner of increasing turnover in the Third World. These phones are indispensable for health reasons in remote villages as well.

Coupled with that, mobile phones are cheaper than they have ever been and so are running costs and call charges. It is no surprise that there is a proliferation of mobile phones throughout the world. But there is a strong backlash against portable phones or at least there is a backlash against some users of these telephones.

Mobile phones can be thought of like guns. Guns are not a problem, the problem is the twit who fires one irresponsibly. So, how can we minimize the amount we annoy people when using our mobile phones in public? This is referred to as mobile phone etiquette and all users of phones in public places would be well advised to learn and adopt this etiquette.

The first thing to do is bear in mind that they are called 'mobile phones' that refers to the fact that you can take them with you, so if you get a call while you are in a public place, walk to somewhere where you will not disturb anyone. We do not want to listen to you!

Keep in mind, that your phone ringing in a restaurant, classroom, bus, or even a pub is annoying to most individuals. There is no excuse for this except laziness. Put your telephone on silent with or without vibration and / or flashing light - but no ring tone!

The only sports that come to mind where a mobile phone is not abhorred are football and rugby. For all other indoor and outdoor sports, especially golf, tennis, snooker and poker, turn the thing off all together!

Thinking about the caller, it is not really very good to use your phone while you are in the toilet, especially a public lavatory.

If you are in a meeting, it is a good idea to set your phone to voice mail and switch the device off. This is because, even if you do not answer the phone during the meeting, the wondering of who it may have been could distract you. This goes for school classes and college lectures too.

If you follow these rules of mobile phone etiquette you will not see so many annoyed faces scowling at you and you will brighten the lives of thousands of your fellow humans.

Ladies Evening Dresses - How to Choose the Perfect One For Your Wife

By David Feltham

Do you want to treat your wife or girlfriend to a stunning evening dress but don't know where to start? Buying clothes for women is never easy, but think of the brownie points you would get if you could pull it off. Think of it as a project that needs careful planning and consideration. Follow the points below and you might just get it right!

Ladies evening dresses are gowns that they wear for formal functions or semi-formal events and parties. They are less over the top than ball gowns and are usually full length and have a flowing style. Short evening dresses are becoming more popular, unless your event is very formal, as they are fun and flirty, but staying with the classic look is a safer bet.

Dress size
Don't ask your significant other or she'll know you're up to something. Look in her wardrobe at something she's worn recently and you know fits well.

Styles
Unless you want to spend weeks on this little project you need a quick way to narrow down the vast range of styles available. So consider these options:

Length - stick with something longer than mid calf.

Sleeves and straps - spaghetti straps and halter necks are very popular, especially in the summer months. For a more dramatic look, go for a ladies evening dress with only one shoulder strap. For women that hate having their arms on show, find something with short or long sleeves or plan on buying a bolero jacket or shrug as well.

Body coverage - if your wife is a bit more reserved, stick with dresses that offer moderate coverage of the back and cleavage. If your wife is a party girl, buy a bold dress with a plunging neckline, an open back and thigh high split.

Body shape - if your wife is comfortable with her bottom and thighs, go for a mermaid or sheath shape gown. If she prefers to cover up in these areas, an empire waist or A-line dress would be perfect.

Overall simple is your safest option. Avoid anything overly embellished or fancy.

Colors
You cannot really go wrong with black, but if your wife will want to stand out from the crowd, you can be a little bolder with red or white. Black is typically a winter color but you can also opt for other dark colors such as burgundy. If you are looking to branch out into other colors, consider your wife's skin tone. If she has light skin, stick with greens, blues and purples. If she has dark skin, go for reds, yellows and browns.

Plus size women
If you are buying for a slightly larger lady, you will be wanting a moderately fitted dress that makes her look slimmer and taller. Avoid stretchy fabrics and stick with dark colors. Go for A-line evening dresses for ladies to hide big thighs or empire waist dresses to downplay large tummies and thighs. Do not buy a dress with a lot of embellishments.

Most women like to shop for their own clothes so you are a brave man to try. Make sure you like the dress you buy as knowing this will make her keener to wear it. Just make sure you arrange to take her out somewhere nice so she can take it for a spin, but give her a few days grace to change it if she really dislikes it! And remember the perfect night begins with the perfect dress.
